Bactoman was a collaboration with UCL students for the 2015 iGEM competition. The students wanted to create a comic to explain the science they where doing with genetic modification of bacteria to help with mental health. They wanted to make it clear and fun to read bout, so decided on a comic and a superhero to explain the science visually.
Bactoman is an origin story of the superhero and his sidekick which aims to tell a tory by showing the reader how a mental illness, like depression, can affect a person, and then showing how the science they are doing works and can help.
I worked with the team on their visuals of the comic itself and the main brand and logo of the superhero, working closely with one of the team with the script and drawing and colouring the comic pages themselves.
Take a look at the finished comic on their competition website here.
